- Anti-Inflammatory + Pain-Relieving -
Meadowsweet is a plant. The parts that grow above the ground are used to make medicine. Meadowsweet is used for colds, bronchitis, upset stomach, heartburn, peptic ulcer disease, and joint disorders including gout. It is also used to increase urine output and kill germs in the urine of people with bladder infections. As a digestive aid, the Meadowsweet herb is hard to beat. It soothes and protects the mucous membranes of the digestive tract and stomach lining whilst reducing acidity. Studies have found that Meadowsweet can also promote the healing of chronic ulcers and prevent lesions from developing in the stomach. It is used in the treatment of heartburn, hyperacidity, gastritis and peptic ulceration. Containing salicylic acid, Meadowsweet is an effective herb against inflammation. The anti-inflammatory action of these salicylates makes Meadowsweet effective against rheumatic pain, while its tannin and mucilage content appear to buffer the adverse effects of isolated salicylates which can cause gastric bleeding. Aspirin, on the other hand, can cause gastric ulceration.
